George E. Buckle (1854-1935)
George Earle Buckle was the editor of the London "Times" in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Lord Randolph Churchill and Winston Churchill frequently corresponded with him. Buckle was a passionate man who did not always strive for objectivity in his imperialistic paper. During the Boer War (1899-1902), Buckle - who was an ardent devotee of the imperialist Cecil Rhodes - made no effort to cover the war in an impartial way, as did the other great London newspapers.
