Henry Cole (1808-1882)

Sir Henry "King" Cole was a civil servant, industrial designer and museum director. In 1850 he organized the Great Exhibition of 1851. This led to his appointment as General Superintendent of the Department of Practical Art at South Kensington Museum, renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1899. Cole was made a Companion of the Order of Bath after the Great Exhibition and was knighted in 1875.
