Henry Fawcett (1833-1884)
Henry Fawcett, a British economist and politician, was a member of Parliament. He became blind at age 25 when his father's shotgun accidentally discharged. Fawcett became Postmaster General and did much to encourage the Post Office to employ women. He married Millicent Garrett Fawcett (1847-1929), sister of the pioneering woman physician and educator Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. Mrs. Fawcett was involved in the women's suffrage movement and was a founder of Newnham College in Cambridge.
