Joseph Jefferson (1829-1905)

Joseph Jefferson was an actor who made his debut at age six. He was especially famous for his performance in "Rip Van Winkle," a play written by Dion Boucicault. He toured around the world and was such a success as Rip Van Winkle that audiences associated him with that role alone, even though he had a much broader comedic range.
