Sebastian Quagliani (born c.1838)

"Signor Sebastian" Quagliani, a renowned equestrian, belonged to Quagliani's Italian Circus. His parents, Antonio (born c.1816 in Italy) and Amelia (born c.1821 in the same Italian town), were traveling equestrians with eight children, all born in various European countries. The family settled in England in the 1860s. In 1873 Signor Sebastian performed with Barnum's show. Quagliani had the utterly unique talent of being able to impersonate Dickens characters while on horseback. Sebastian, born in Turkey, poses here in an elegant costume at the Mora studio in New York.
