Arthur Matthison
Arthur Matthison, tenor, poet, lyricist and lecturer, appeared in New York theaters in the late 1860s. Matthison held forth on Dante and recited his own poems, as well as singing in operatic sketches. The artist poses here in an Elizabethan costume at New York's Gurney studio.
