Erasmus Darwin Keyes (1810-1895)
Erasmus Darwin Keyes was major general of volunteers in the Union Army. He spent a large part of the war in Virginia. At the start of the Civil War he was named colonel on May 14, 1861, and brigadier general of volunteers three days later. He took over the command of Buell's old division. He was brevetted brigadier general in the regular army at Seven Pines. Keyes was criticized by his commander for a weak performance at Richmond and was assigned to desk duty. He resigned in May 1864.
