Caroline Richings, Mrs. Peter Bernard (1827-1882)
Caroline Richings - an opera singer, pianist, librettist, composer, director, and impresario - made her operatic debut in 1852 at the Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia. Her adoptive father, Peter Richings, formed the Richings Opera Company; the daughter performed as pianist, singer, and took over as director in 1867.
