Johann Gottfried von Herder (1744-1803)

Johann von Herder was a German critic, theologian, and philosopher, the leading figure of the Sturm und Drang literary movement. His influence, augmented by his contacts with the young Goethe, made him a forerunner of the Romantic movement.
