Lincoln's Funeral in Springfield

This shot from above shows citizens gathering in back of the Springfield State House, where Lincoln lay in state. The funeral in Springfield, even more so than in Chicago, was different from the earlier ones, for here Lincoln had been well known to large numbers of people, and for a much longer time than he had been known in Washington.
