Clement Claiborne Clay (1816-1882)

Clement C. Clay was a United States senator from Alabama. When Alabama seceded from the Union, Clay withdrew from Congress. Clay served two years in the Confederate senate and was then part of a secret Confederate mission to Canada. After the assassination of Lincoln, he was arrested and imprisoned for a year, but never convicted of a crime.
