Nathan Clifford (1803-1881)
Clifford was an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1858 to 1881. During his tenure on the Court, he wrote the Court's opinion in almost 400 cases. Clifford was also a congressman from New Jersey from 1838 to 1843 and a U.S. attorney general from 1846 to 1848.
