Elizabeth Clift Bacon Custer (1842-1933), George Armstrong Custer (1839-1876), and his Brother Tom

Custer was the youngest general in the Union army, promoted to major general in 1865. Libbie Bacon, a gifted writer, married him in 1863 and threw herself into military life and its hardships. After his death at Little Big Horn, she supported herself by writing and lecturing.
