John Minor Botts (1802-1869)
John Minor Botts was a Whig congressman from Virginia. He was vehemently opposed to the Democratic party throughout his life and tried unsuccessfully to prevent the secession of Virginia before the Civil War. Jefferson Davis had him thrown in jail in 1862, where he was confined for eight weeks.
