John Cochrane (1813-1898)

Democratic U.S. Congressman from New York from 1857-61, and Union colonel of the 65th New York Infantry until a physical disability caused him to resign. He was brevetted brigadier general. Cochrane was a Tammany Hall leader who served in numerous positions in New York including state attorney general and police justice of New York City.
