Johann Strauss (1825-1899)
Johann Baptist Strauss, an Austrian composer and conductor, was the most famous member of a Viennese family of musicians. Strauss inherited the mantle of "Waltz King" from his father and in 1863 received the official position of "director of the court balls" in Vienna. During the 1860s Strauss composed his most famous waltzes, such as "The Beautiful Blue Danube" (1867).
