Alphonso Taft (1810-1891)
Alphonso Taft was the secretary of war and attorney general under President Grant. Taft also served as U.S. minister to Austria-Hungary and Russia. He was appointed judge of the Cincinnati Superior Court and served from 1865 to 1872. He was the father of William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States.
