"Peace and Liberty"
In this French cartoon dating from the early 1950s, the true face of Soviet repression is drawn for all to see. Behind the grim-faced Soviet guard stands France's and America's former ally Joseph Stalin, laughing while he tramples on the graves of his many victims. Above him, Soviet planes head off on wars of aggression, while the Soviets' own people are marched off, starving, to Siberia. The cartoon is entitled, mockingly, "Peace and Liberty."
