John Quincy Adams Ward (1830-1910)

John Quincy Adams Ward was one of the greatest naturalist sculptors of the nineteenth century. He was the leader of a group of post-Civil War naturalistic sculptors who believed in using American themes. One of his first great sculptures,"The Indian Hunter," was unusual in that it was sculpted to be viewed in the round. Ward's famous "Henry Ward Beecher" stands in Borough Hall Square in Brooklyn.
