General Charles Francis Adams, Jr. (1835-1912)

Brevet Brigadier General Charles Franics Adams Jr., full-length portrait, seated facing front, in rocking chair next to three officers, also seated. During the Civil War Charles Francis Adams, Jr. was a lieutenant colonel in the Fifth Massachusetts Cavalry and was later brevetted a brigadier general. In 1884 Adams was elected president of the Union Pacific Railroad. He was also a prolific historian who served as the president of the Massachusetts Historical Society from 1895 until his death.
