Lincoln's Letter to Elmer Ellsworth's Parents

This is President Lincoln's letter to Ellsworth's father and mother, written on the day after Ellsworth became the first Union casualty of the Civil War. Lincoln describes Ellsworth as "my young friend, and your brave and early fallen child."
