Belle Boyd (1844-1900)
Maria Isabella (Belle) Boyd became a Confederate spy at age 17. Boyd was arrested three times by Union troops, but nevertheless took a Confederate blockade runner to England in 1864, where she married Union naval officer Samuel Harding, who had captured the blockade runner. After the war Boyd took her story onto the London stage and wrote "Belle Boyd in Camp and Prison."
