Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948)

Gandhi was an Indian political and spiritual leader. After a Western education in London, he adopted traditional Indian practices and became a great teacher of nonviolent civil disobedience. Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu fanatic because of the leader's respect for Muslims. Here Gandhi, who advocated a return to cottage industries, sits on a platform in his traditional loincloth and uses a spinning wheel.
