Amelia Earhart (1897-1937)

A leading American aviator, Earhart was the first woman to pilot across the Atlantic (1928). She was the first person ever to fly alone from Hawaii to California (1935). In 1937 Earhart set out to fly around the world, but her plane went down in the Pacific. Her fate remains a mystery.
