Edward W. Brooke (b.1919)
Edward William Brooke was attorney general of Massachusetts from 1963 to 1966. In 1966 Brooke became the first African American in the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction (R-MA), and served until 1979. In 1967 he served on the President's Commission on Civil Disorders, investigating the causes of racial violence in urban areas.
