Secret Service Agents and Police Tackle Hinckley
This scene shows the chaos outside the Washington, DC, Hilton after would-be assassin John Hinckley, Jr. fired on President Reagan. Secret Service agents leap to help police officers overpower Hinckley, against the wall. Press Secretary James Brady lies motionless on the sidewalk. Police agent Thomas Delehanty and Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy were also wounded. Although Hinckley missed him, Reagan was seriously wounded by a bullet that bounced off the bullet-proof window of his limo (right). Brady remained permanently paralyzed.
