President Garfield is Moved to New Jersey
Although President James Garfield was shot on July 2, 1881, it was not until September 19 that he passed away. This illustration depicts the scene as he was moved by train to Elberon, New Jersey to escape the heat in Washington. It appeared in the September 17, 1881 issue of Harper's.
