Grover Cleveland (1837-1908)
Grover Cleveland became the first Democratic president in twenty-four years when he took office in 1885. He was the only president to serve in nonconsecutive terms, serving as twenty-second president from 1885 to 1889 and twenty-fourth from 1893 to 1897. His presidency was marked by rigorous honesty and integrity. He significantly expanded the powers of the executive office. In this photograph, Cleveland sits outside on a chair, a dog beside him.
