This illustration from the September 9, 1865 issue of Harper's Weekly depicts the home presented to Ulysses S. Grant by a group of Galena citizens on August 18, 1865, when he returned there as a victorious Civil War General. The engraved illustration was based on photographs taken by Lamberson & James.
