President Garfield on his Deathbed

President James Garfield spent his last days in a seaside cottage in Elberon, New Jersey. This illustration is from "Harper's Weekly," October 1, 1881. Garfield died on September 19, 1881 of gunshot wounds inflicted on July 2, 1881.
