Theodore Roosevelt Island
People are shown here crossing a pontoon bridge over the Potomac River to go to Mason's Island which is now known as Theodore Roosevelt Island. The Mason family owned it for 125 years. For years after that the island was a picnic resort, except during the Civil War when Union Army troops were stationed there. The island is now a memorial to Theodore Roosevelt.
