"The Original Big Tree, Calaveras County, CA"

This photo dated July 4, 1881 shows the tree stump from the largest tree in the grove, diameter thirty two feet. Five men worked twenty five days with large augers to cut down the tree in 1853. Band members are standing in front of the tree stump for the photo.
