Confederate Battery at Vicksburg
This is one of the Confederate batteries at Vicksburg. The city was ideally situated for defense and was virtually impregnable to assault. The 4 gun battery shown here was about 200 yards from the Mississippi River. The Union army finally took over Vicksburg in July 1863 after a long siege.
