Dam on the Red River
Joseph Bailey designed a series of wing dams, built of felled trees and stone filled cribs, to raise the level of the Red River. This photograph shows Union troops at work on one of these dams. The note on the back of the photograph says, "Credit Paymaster Benton, late U.S. Navy".
