Joseph Wheeler (1836-1906)
This photograph of Joseph Wheeler, a lieutenant general in the Confederate Army, was probably taken before the Civil War. After the war, Joseph Wheeler served for more that fifteen years as a Democrat from Alabama in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was known as "Fightin' Joe" Wheeler and served much later as a major general in the Spanish American War. He is one of the few Confederates to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
