Brigadier General Raleigh Edward Colston (1825-1896)

Colston was the adopted son of a Virginia doctor that was born in Paris, France. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and joined the faculty as a professor of French. After the Civil War, he joined the Egyptian Army as a colonel and was crippled when he fell off a camel. He returned to the U.S. and died impoverished in the Confederate Soldiers' Home in Richmond.
