The Enola Gay
Colonel Paul W. Tibbets, seen here inside his B29, was the pilot who dropped the first atom bomb. His plane was named Enola Gay after his mother. The bomb leveled four square miles of the Japanese city of Hiroshima, killing 60,000 people and injuring 100,000 others.
