"Avantures Mal-Heureures du Sieur de la Salle"

This illustration with the translated title of "The Unhappy Aventures of Monsieur de la Salle" depicts the unsuccessful journey of the French explorer Robert La Salle in 1684. He was attempting to reach the Mississippi River, but his men grew mutinous and murdered him after landing in Texas and making several unsuccessful attempts to find the river overland.
