Joseph Wheeler (1836-1906)
Joseph Wheeler was a Confederate General from Georgia who graduated from West Point in 1859. After the Civil War, he became a cotton planter in Wheeler, Alabama (named after him), entered politics, and served in the U.S. House of Representatives. President McKinley appointed him major general of volunteers during the Spanish American War and he fought in the famous Battle of San Juan Hill.
