Reverend Lyman Abbott (1835-1922)

Lyman was an influential American Congregationalist clergyman, editor and author. He succeeded Henry Ward Beecher as the pastor of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Brooklyn. With Beecher, he edited the Christian Union newspaper which became the Outlook magazine. Through the Outlook, Lyman promoted the views of the moderate Protestant progressivism movement and his theory of Christian evolution.
