General Edward Porter Alexander (1835-1910)

Alexander was a Confederate Brigadier General who was a brilliant engineer and artillery tactician. A graduate of West Point, where he also taught, he invented the WIGWAG (semaphore) system of signaling with Albert Myer. After the Civil War, Alexander became a railroad industry executive who served as the president of the Central Railroad and Banking Company of Georgia. He was also well-known for his memoirs and other writings about his Confederate service.
