Horatio Allen (1802-1899)

Allen was a civil engineer and inventor. Allen was a consulting engineer for the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Panama Railroad. He received three United States patents for inventions connected with the cut-off valves of steam engines. He was the president of the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1872.
