"Planning the Capture of John Wilkes Booth"

Lieutenant Colonel Lafayette Baker, at center, was head of the Secret Service when Lincoln was assassinated. The other two men in the photograph are Lieutenant Luther B. Baker (at left) and Lieutenant Colonel Everett J. Conger (at right). The caption accompanying the photograph read: "There, you may rest assured, you will find him within five miles of Port Conway, you will have a detail of cavalry who will be strictly subordinate to your every order. There must be no shooting, the villain must be captured alive at every hazard. --Col. Baker's instructions to his assistants. Booth was found within three miles of the place designated."
