Hiram Barney (1811-1895)
Hiram Barney was appointed collector of the port of New York by President Abraham Lincoln and served during the first three years of Lincoln's administration. He graduated from Union College in Schenectady in 1834. Barney was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1856 and attended the convention in 1860 raising $35,000 in New York for the campaign. Barney was also involved with the temperance and anti-slavery movements.
