Brigadier General William Nelson Rector Beall, C.S.A. (1825-1883)
After graduating from West Point in 1848, Beall served as a U.S. Army captain fighting Indians and scouting on the frontier. He resigned to join the Confederate Army in 1861 and was commissioned brigadier general in 1862. Beall commanded the cavalry at Corinth and a brigade at the post at Port Hudson. He surrendered in July 1863 and was paroled in 1864 with orders to act as an agent in charge of obtaining supplies for Confederate prisoners.
