General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard, C.S.A. (1818-1893)
An 1838 graduate of West Point, Beauregard served as an engineer in the Mexican War. In 1861, he resigned his commission and was commissioned a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. Beauregard led the attack on Fort Sumter and was hailed as a hero in the South. He fought in many of the major battles of the war but repeatedly disagreed with Jefferson Davis over strategy.
