David Rice Atchison (1807-1886)

Lawyer and U.S. senator, Atchison was born in Frogtown, Kentucky, the son of farmers. Educated at Transylvania University, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1827. He was President pro tempore of the Senate for several years.
