City Point after the Explosion

City Point was the base of supplies for General Ulysses S. Grant's Army after it was captured by Union forces in May 1864, until the end of the Civil War. On August 9, 1864 a great explosion on an ammunition barge caused extensive damage to the wharf, killed and injured workers, and destroyed supplies.
