Belle Plain Landing on the James River
The Belle Plain landing was the supply base and evacuation point for wounded Union troops from Grant's army. Soldiers and tents can be seen in the foreground, transports and steamboats in the distance. Photographer Egbert Guy Fowx was the assistant to A. J. Russell, official government photographer during the war.
