Fort Whipple, Washington, DC
One of the many Union forts protecting Washington, DC, Fort Whipple stood a mile and a half southwest of the Virginia end of the Aqueduct Bridge. The gun in the foreground is a twelve-pounder smoothbore, a Napoleon.
